Coding Certificate Program for SNFs

ICD-10-CM Coding Live a three-day virtual workshop through Zoom designed to guide post-acute care nurses and IDT members through the process of determining and identifying the most appropriate ICD-10-CM codes. The Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) has increased the importance of accurate ICD-10-CM diagnoses. ICD-10-CM codes and diagnoses will impact the PT, OT, SLP, NTA, and nursing components under PDPM. AAPACN Master Teacher, Carol Maher, RN, GERO-BC, RAC-MTA, RAC-MT, CPC, will walk you through the process for using the ICD-10-CM Manual, from identification of the main term through the final code selection, and review coding and chapter-specific guidelines.

Interactive Instruction with Live Q&A

This virtual workshop will move through the same four-part curriculum developed for the on-demand program, which has been updated to include the FY 2026 Guidelines. The live format will provide a unique forum to receive interactive education with comprehensive question and answer sessions. You will have the opportunity to ask your specific questions and address any concerns you have that will help support your success.

After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Define the correct process for determining the ICD-10 CM code from the physician’s documented diagnoses
  • State the importance of chapter specific guidelines
  • Explain steps required to determine a principal diagnosis
  • Identify the MDS item where the facility will document the ICD-10-CM code for the primary diagnosis
  • List at least four documents to review to determine diagnoses for your new SNF resident

Registration for this workshop includes participation all three days, plus access to the online materials used during the workshop and the exam associated with the ICD-10-CM Coding Certificate Program.

For a successful workshop experience, it’s required you have a current copy of an ICD-10 manual on-hand. A free version is available on the CMS site, or you may purchase a version of your choosing.

Carol Maher has no conflicts of interest to disclose.

Registration for ICD-10-CM Coding Live will close at 10am ET on Nov. 4.
