The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced that the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) will end on May 11, 2023. Several skilled nursing facility (SNF) blanket waivers that were put into place during the PHE will also terminate at the conclusion of the PHE. During this 60-minte webinar, AAPACN Curriculum Development Specialist, Jennifer LaBay, RN, RAC-CT, RAC-MTA, QCP, CRC, will explain what the expiration of SNF blanket waivers means for nurse assessment coordinators (NACs), with a special focus on the 3-day qualifying hospital stay waiver and the benefit period waiver. Jennifer will also address common scenarios demonstrating the full impact of the end of the waivers, such as situations involving the interrupted stay and 30-day transfer rule.

After participating in this webinar, learners will be able to:

• Understand how the end of the 3-day qualifying hospital stay waiver and the benefit period waiver will impact SNFs and Medicare beneficiaries
• Recognize other areas that will be impacted by the end of the PHE blanket waivers including nurse aide training, vaccine billing, COVID-19 testing requirements, and National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) reporting requirements
