Emergency Preparedness Resources and Assistance

As hurricanes and wildfires create havoc around the U.S., and November is approaching with the Emergency Preparedness Final Rule implementation deadline, we are reminded of the importance of getting our facilities prepared for any emergency or disaster that may come our way. To assist you in getting ready for any emergency event, below are a few helpful Emergency Preparedness resources to review:

·         FEMA

·         Technical Resources, Assistance Center, and Information Exchange (TRACIE)

The regulations related to emergency preparedness can be found here:

·         Emergency Preparedness / Appendix Z, State Operations Manual Update

·         Emergency Preparedness Survey and Certification CMS Webpage

·         Emergency Preparedness Final Rule Webpage

Our hearts go out to all of the facilities, staff, residents, and families affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. We hope that facility leaders are reaching out to local resources and are able to find what they need. However, as your professional association, know that we are also here to help you endure and get through these difficult times. If you need any assistance, or know of anyone who could use assistance, we will help in any way we can. Please reach out to us at 844.796.9634.

The F838 Facility Assessment and the Emergency Preparedness regulations work in tandem related to competency and resident population care and service needs during day-to-day operations and within an emergency situation. To help you prepare your facility-based and community-based risk assessment for emergencies, as well as get ready for all of the November 2017 deadlines for the Emergency Preparedness Final Rule and Phase 2 of the Requirements of Participation, start with the AADNS Facility-Wide Assessment Workbook.
